Is the joke based on the fact that the dad didn’t say a word about his cooking? Not sure I get it… Maybe the other children are jalous that the dad says jimmy and him are best pals?
Sitting beside a parent like that wouldn’t really imply anything regarding custody. Not to mention that it wouldn’t make sense for the kids to say “Eat a dick, Jimmy” and be upset unless it was out of jealousy.
Not much of another way I could expect it to be rendered to make it straight-forward.

I would have written in something along the lines of
Mum says: “I love Jimmy more than I could love any child, he means so much to me”
then the father could say he loved him more, then you see the other kids.

The kids are Jimmy’s brothers and sister. They are jealous that their parents are fighting over Jimmy and don’t care who gets them.
