So, I took down today’s strip because of an email I received from an offended reader. And if the strip offended you too, I apologize. The joke in the strip wasn’t meant to poke fun at that community, rather the joke was meant to be in the misdirection of the reader. Leading the reader to believe the guy in the strip was giving a Mothers’ Day gift to his step mom, when it turned out to be his male to female transgender father. (in case you hadn’t read it) The female character was drawn the same as I always draw moms in my comic and there was no negative commentary. I assumed that anyone, including someone transgender, would find a laugh in my lighthearted joke. I’m still debating having it up in the channelate archives, but if it was offensive to the majority, I will leave it off. If you have your own thoughts on this, I’d love to read them in the comments section.
Been posting some of my reject ideas on my facebook page. Thought I would start sharing some on the site here.
Basically to come up with ideas I just fill my sketchbook with jokes I come up with on the spot. Most aren’t funny, some are great and others are just so-so. I still enjoy the so-so ones, but for what ever reason I don’t feel they are worthy of being a solid update.
Here are a couple recent ones. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
Draw Until It’s Funny is ending in two weeks, so I’ll be joining Justin in finishing the last stretch. I’ll be posting every other week day starting today! http://www.drawuntilitsfunny.com/2011/05/03/hang-gliding/
Soooooooooo. Just wanted to say that starting Monday I’m going to be updating channelate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
I’ve never had a declared posting schedule, but it was an unspoken new year’s resolution of mine to post five times a week. It’s been a great exercise in doing comics super often, but with my day job and other projects, its been really hard to keep up.
That being said, every day I get closer and closer to making this comic a full time thing. And I think posting three solid comics a week will help get there by keeping the quality where I think it should be. Maybe when the time comes that I get to do this full time, I will ramp back up to five.
Also, there are a handful of other projects I work on every night that never get seen because I don’t have the time for full on production. I just figure if I keep preparing things and doing as much pre-production as I can now, I can hit the ground running when this is my job. If I have any teasers or other things that I can justify putting out early, I will. Cuz it kills me how much work I have been doing that nobody is seeing.
Since there isn’t a comic up yet today, I recommend you go read some Left Handed Toons. Justin has been my internet room mate/landlord for a few months now. He also makes sure my things don’t explode in a bad way. So hey Justin, thanks for that. So if you’re in the mood for some funny stuff drawn Lefty, go check it out, damn you!
